Poems in July

Last month I wrote about my love for Clint Smith’s poetry from his collection entitled Counting Descent. My favorite piece this month is first one featured by Ada Límon, which caught my attention this past 4th of July. America’s independence day isn’t a celebration for all people and I think Límon’s words beautifully encompass the conflicting ideas of patriotism in America. The four final pieces don’t necessarily illustrate the same ideas as Límon, but they all captured my heart just the same.
