One of my most read blog posts ever focused on ending cash bail and donating funds to National Bail Out in order to free incarcerated people of color who can’t afford their money bail. The criminal justice system is an issue especially close to my heart as I’ve developed a passion for those in prison. This Mother’s Day, the National Bail Out Collective in partnership with numerous black-led organizations such as Color of Change and Black Love Bail Out is working to free black mamas so they can spend the day with their families. Cash bail is an unjust component of the prison system that literally keeps people in cages simply because they can’t afford their freedom. Although it may take a while to truly end cash bail and free every person of color from the hold of mass incarceration, I hope everyone will donate as much as they can to free the mamas stuck in jail on the most maternal day of the year. Head to the Brooklyn Community Bail Fund and let’s free as many unjustly imprisoned black and brown mamas as we can!
