My Summertime Curly Hair Routine

Summertime curly hair routine

It’s taken me a while to work on a successful curly hair routine that keeps my curls moisturized and defined while also creating volume and eliminating frizz. That doesn’t seem like a lot to ask for, does it? I just want the perfect head of ringlets! While I’ve slowly traded my overnight t-shirt plopping technique (it hurts my head too much & Jonathan ruthlessly teased this process) for diffuzers and pillow scrunching, I think my summertime curly hair routine has more or less been rewarding!

I stopped washing my hair every night and instead only shampoo the roots every other day, but I’m still using my favorite Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Shampoo and Conditioner. These products work great all year round, but especially keep my curls clean and healthy in the humid summertime. On the nights where I don’t wash my hair, I fill a spray bottle with water and spritz my locks until they’re damp and ready for a refresh. The spray bottle is essential in any curly girl’s hair collection even on days where the hair is styled. When my curls are wet from the shower or damp from the spray bottle, I spray half a dozen pumps of the Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Yogurt Hydrate + Repair Multi-Action Leave-In, which is perfect for the summertime heat. This spray hydrates and smooths all of my hair while deep conditioning my curls and prepping them for styling and diffuzing. The Bounce Curl Light Creme Gel is a new addition to my summertime curly hair routine and it’s taken a few weeks to get used to the texture and finished look, so I mix it with my holy grail La Bella Super Hold Styling Gel + Coconut Oil (fun anecdote: this gel is no longer shipped to HawaiĘ»i so I purchased three of these massive tubs and picked them up in Texas when I last went to Waco!) to get the perfect summertime gel combo that keeps all of my curls intact!
