Mixing Neutral Pieces During the Holidays

Mixing neutral pieces

H&M top, Topshop jeans, Cole Haan shoes

I’ve been shopping a hell of a lot more recently with most of my new purchases being cute ass clothes and shoes to fit my refreshed style and wardrobe! For a while after I lost my initial weight, I primarily wore a couple pairs of jeans and any and every t-shirt from Brandy Melville (like here and here). Brandy Melville tops felt comfy and easy to wear in every setting and while I still wear them on the weekends and to get groceries (or in basically every watch the Baylor game with me and my dad video!), I’m trying to reinvent my closet and add as many pieces as possible as I’ve been mixing patterns, colors, and metals on a daily basis. I’ve been so inspired by the fashion TikToks I’ve recently seen with creators styling outfits out of multiple pieces and layering with lots of unique pieces. Two of my favorite fashion creators and style inspirations are Lizzi and Carla Rockmore, both of whom constantly experiment with trends, patterns, and shapes in ways I never would’ve thought of before. My outfit above isn’t as interesting as theirs always are (I put an almost identical look together last May), but it’s an example of my experimenting with mixing neutrals I normally wouldn’t wear together! I mentioned before how I never used to wear brown despite my mom sharing how versatile the color is, but now I love it so much! If I were going off of my old styling techniques, I would wear this brown mockneck top with a blue denim skirt and brown shoes but now that I’m mixing pieces more, I immediately chose my favorite smoky gray jeans for bottoms and my navy suede Cole Haan mules. Brown and blue (specifically chocolate and navy) look amazing together as shown in both my Sally Hansen manicure and the above outfit!
