Making Outfit Basics Work for the Office

Madewell top (similar here), American Eagle jeans, Madewell bag, Cole Haan shoes (on sale!), NOIR hair clips

Since the attorneys in my office have mostly been working from home everyday, my wardrobe rotation is focused on slightly more casual pieces with lots of jeans (as opposed to my usual pants situation). For such a simple look, these styled outfit basics are my current favorites to wear! I found my favorite denim in the form of these American Eagle jeans that are made in a curvy style for standard sizes. Most “curvy” pieces that nip in at the waist and stretch over the butt and thighs are only for plus sizes, but this pair fits my body perfectly and is one of my most essential outfit basics for work and downtime. Jeans can be tricky when it comes to casual office settings, so I find that medium to dark washes (obviously black is always a great pick) that fit well and are tapered at the ankle are the most appropriate. I styled my jeans with this ruched black top with puffed sleeves from Madewell. I normally wouldn’t wear two tighter pieces together (especially at work), but the simplicity of the top with a slight peplum makes it another one of my outfit basics that’s both flattering and proper in the office. Accessories are an ideal way to make casual outfit basics suitable for a fancier setting, so I wore my favorite snakeskin pink mules from Cole Haan as a pop of color and added the Madewell leather carryall I take to work everyday. To finish off the look, I popped on two pink hair clips on either side of my head that matched my watch and flats. For extremely cold offices, I would throw on a pink or white tweed jacket as well!

Will this outfit work with a French tuck? I work at an office in a different state from you and don’t know you at all but enjoy your blog and fashion tips.

It wouldn’t due to the peplum bottom, but I’m sure your favorite polos would work!
