Valentine’s Day is always a fun time to eat more chocolate and send sweet thoughts to loved ones. My dad has bought me a big ass box of my favorite gourmet chocolates from Honolulu Chocolate Company every year since I was a little girl and it’s still my favorite gift on this day. He also sends me a lovely card, which I compile with all of my other notes and cards from him. My friend Krista also gives out fun candies and handwritten notes every year without fail. Receiving these thoughtful treats and letters from some of my favorite people is my favorite part of the celebration. Because Jacob and I can’t spend the day together in person, we decided to make spaghetti and eat it over FaceTime (complete with a fake heart shaped candle!). We had a great time simultaneously cooking the same meal and eating as if we’re right in front of each other. Although we couldn’t be together today, we’ll see each other in a couple weeks and the wait will be worth it!
I wanted to include a few of my favorite poems about love in all its forms after two of my favorite authors tweeted a list of writings relevant to Valentine’s Day. Celebrate love today with friends, family, significant others, or strangers if you can!
