Back before my days of obsessively watching One Tree Hill, Gilmore Girls, and The Real Housewives of New Jersey/Orange County (it was the early 2000s, I was in second grade, and these were the shows of my youth), Lizzie McGuire, Drake and Josh, and Zoey 101 were my very young binge-able selections. The earliest versions of me loved Lizzie and Zoey for their style choices comprised of layered colorful tops, low-rise jeans with chunky belts, platform sandals, and loads of jewels and accessories. I distinctly remember the Lizzie McGuire episode where Lizzie wants a pair of distressed jeans with bedazzled seams to earn the ‘Best Dressed’ yearbook superlative, and I thought her outfits in that 20 minute segment were some of the most stylish and unique looks I’d ever seen (my adolescent imagination was quite limited in scope). Now that I’m a 26-year-old teenage girl with my own salary to spend (as if I didn’t spend loads of money on clothes and accessories throughout high school and college), I’m still inspired by my favorite childhood shows and their style selections, as referenced in this Lizzie-esque multicolored outfit. I started with this nearly top of thigh-length pink twisted blouse from Zara that I purchased for a great steal on Poshmark, but have previously struggled to style. My first attempt was with a pair of black wide-legged linen trousers from Uniqlo (see the white version here), but I wanted to go for more of a Y2K look, and this black and white gingham miniskirt from the Waco Plato’s Closet spoke to me! I love the contrast between pink, black, and white, and the top’s length and hem enmeshed the skirt to almost appear as a dress. A Lizzie look wouldn’t be complete without bright and funky accessories, so I tied a colorful scarf around my $10 green rubber bag from Ross (I will love this Polly Pocket piece forever!!), layers of necklaces and bracelets and earrings, and my most perfect pair of Charlotte Stone wedges to capture each individual featured shade. I think Lizzie and Zoey and Megan from Drake and Josh would be proud!
