How NARS Dolce Vita Lip Gloss and Lipstick Differ

I don’t write many beauty posts anymore (long-term readers will remember I started This Is Noelle as a beauty blog!) because I’ve stuck with the same products every day for the past few years, but every once in a while I’ll pick up a new eyeshadow palette or lip item and incorporate them in my routine. I’ve used and loved the NARS Dolce Vita lipstick almost every day since 2015 (first appearance on my much thinner, younger baby face!) because it’s my perfect ‘my lips but better’ shade that works with literally every single makeup look. The lipstick is a cream formula so it doesn’t dry out my lips, but it also doesn’t last longer than 2 hours. When I was in Texas for Jonathan’s wedding last month, I picked up the matching NARS Dolce Vita lip gloss to wear on top of its original formula, thinking the shades would be exactly the same. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) they were quite different. NARS Dolce Vita lip gloss is a bright cool toned pink that’s almost like a lip stain. The formula is thick and slightly tacky, but not sticky like most other glosses, and it lasts longer than any lip product I own. I apply two coats in the morning when I get ready, and the color is still there after I eat lunch (admittedly a tad lighter). It’s brighter and darker than the lipstick version so it doesn’t match every look, but I love how it brings light to my face. I wouldn’t hate wearing the lipstick and gloss together (I’ve already done that a couple of times), but I think they look better individually as the lipstick is such a beautiful neutral and the lip gloss packs a punch. If you’re looking for a matching lipstick and gloss combo, I would recommend buying a different set, but I love each of the products individually, so it’s not a bad purchase!
