A hui hou 2016, you were a great pain in my ass. Starting over every year is always therapeutic, but this refresher almost seems imperative for everyone. 2016 took some of the greatest performers in history, stole the optimism of even the happiest people, burnt bridges between families and friends due to unavoidable political and moral differences, and left me wondering how we’ll ever be able to get past all of the pain. Saying “it will all be okay” seems irresponsible, so instead I’ll say “we’ll move forward together”. In 2017, let’s work toward becoming more compassionate, kind, understanding, loving and patient toward each other. Let’s focus on hope rather than fear. Let’s bridge the divide between even the most damaged hearts and let’s do it together. Hauʻoli makahiki hou; tomorrow is a new day!
