Yes, here it is again- another Hamilton post. This time I’m celebrating the cast of my favorite play who broke theatrical and diversity records during the 2016 Tony Awards. While different elements of the play were nominated for a record breaking 16 awards, Hamilton’s actors and co. took 11 for the night. Hamilton won for Best New Musical; Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Musical Score; Book (“Hamilton the Revolution” aka the Hamiltome); Orchestration; Costumes; Direction; Choreography and Lighting Design. Leslie Odom Jr., Hamilton’s Aaron Burr, won Best Leading Actor (beating Lin himself); RenĂ©e Elise Goldsberry, the actress behind Angelica Schuyler, was named Best Featured Actress in a Musical; and Daveed Diggs aka Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson won Best Featured Actor in a Musical (beating Christopher Jackson as George Washington and Jonathan Groff as King George III). The cast performed a mixture of “History Has its Eyes on You” and “Yorktown” before closing the night with “The Schuyler Sisters”. Have a listen to the videos below! I recommend keeping tissues on hand…I sobbed while watching the whole performance!
