Ekpe Udoh and Royce O’Neale Sign with Utah Jazz

Two former Baylor basketball players recently signed deals with the Utah Jazz (possibly my new team?) and Baylor fans should rejoice!

PF Ekpe Udoh (2009-2010) earned high honors in his Elite Eight season at Baylor including Second-Team All-Big 12, AP All-American honors, All-Big 12 Defensive team, Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, and Big 12 All-Rookie team. He declared for the NBA Draft after his junior year and was selected by the Golden State Warriors in 2010. He played one season with Bnei Herzliya in Israel before being traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in 2012, where he remained until 2014. Udoh signed with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2014 and played two years for Turkish club Fenerbah├že. In the NBA regular season, Udoh averaged 42.9% FG, 72% FT, 4 points, 1.2 blocks, and 0.7 assists. He signed a two-year $6.5M deal with the Jazz.

SF Royce O’Neale (2013-2015) was a beloved Baylor player after transferring from Denver. He helped the Bears make it to the Sweet Sixteen in 2014 and the NCAA tournament in 2015- the team’s first ever back-to-back NCAA appearance. He earned Second-Team Academic All-Big 12 honors in his final season at Baylor. After graduating in May of 2015, O’Neale played in the summer league with the Boston Celtics before playing professionally for Germany’s MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg. He participated in the NBA summer league again in 2016 with the Golden State Warriors and signed with Lithuanian club ┼Żalgiris Kaunas. The Utah Jazz signed him after his performance on the team in the summer league. His contract is a three-year deal.
