Dressing Down Velvet and Sparkles for Everyday

Dressing down velvet and sparkles

J.Crew top, ASOS skirt, Banana Republic flats, Kate Spade bag (old)

Back in January, I wrote about my new favorite sparkly flats I received for Christmas, so I wanted to document how I wear the shoes on a daily basis and how I’m dressing down velvet and sparkles for an everyday look! I wore this outfit in Houston over the weekend on my first day of real sun since I was home for the holidays. Waco’s weather has been annoyingly inconsistent with some days being 13 (!!!) degrees and others going up to 79. As you may have guessed, I prefer colder weather because I love layering and wearing cute coats and boots, but Saturday in Houston did allow me to show how I love dressing down my favorite “fancier” pieces. When the weather heats up, I love wearing dresses and skirts so I can let my thighs breathe (TMI or nah? I’m sure every woman understands this) and not die from swamp ass. This ASOS skirt is one of my favorite pieces in my closet because it’s affordable and extremely stretchy (which made my overeating at the Cheesecake Factory a much more pleasant experience for everyone). I think denim skirts are a great staple piece when you’re dressing down clothing items that would otherwise be uncomfortable for every day. Because the skirt glides over my lower belly flab aka my cookie pouch, I don’t mind tucking in a cute top or blouse (last seen here), which I did with my J.Crew velvet tank top. I love these J.Crew tanks because they’re soft and are easy to style for both day and night activities. For example, I would also wear the top with my favorite black J.Crew Pixie pants and black heels for a night look! I added my sparkly flats as another fun piece that I love to wear when I’m dressing down an outfit, but when I still want a bit of glitz. I finished the look with my favorite blue Kate Spade purse and my everyday jewelry!
