Dealing With Tragedy

As the day comes to an end, most of us around the world have heard about the tragedy in Boston, Massachusetts that occurred today. It’s extremely hard to try and grasp the amount of pain and suffering that’s in our world. Watching CNN and the news just breaks my heart every day when I see the different stories of tragedy and hurt in people’s lives.

Experiencing stories of suffering makes it easy to blame God. Thinking “Where is God?” and “Why does He let bad things happen to good people if He’s a loving God?” Let me just say that I don’t have all the answers. I don’t really have any answers when it comes to pain and sorrow. What I can say is that I know my Jesus and I know that He works everything out to benefit those who love Him (Romans 8:28). I’m not trying to shove scripture down your throats, but I want you all to know that it’s not okay to blame God for the bad things that happen. Because we are mere human beings, we will never understand His thoughts or His reasons, but we can talk to Him and share with Him our concerns and feelings. Only God knows the big picture. Right now, we only see what our situations and our problems are at the moment, but God sees it all. He knows why tragedies like Sandy Hook and the Boston Marathon happen, and He often uses those tragedies to change lives for the better. Right now, it seems horrible and devastating. It’s always awful when innocent lives are lost. It probably makes you want to catch the monsters who bomb and kill and threaten to do even worse.

Let me just say that it’s not God’s fault. He loves His kids, even those who don’t love Him back. The devil is the one who causes tragedies such as the one that happened today. He came to Earth to “Steal, kill, and destroy,” while Jesus came so that we might have life in abundance and life in the full (John 10:10). Only Jesus can change the awful situations of today and make them situations to positively impact lives all over the world.

This may have been an unorganized and sort of chaotic post, but I just wanted to share my heart at the moment. We all live in a world of tragedy and we need to stick together to make the pain and the hurt things to positively impact our lives. Trust in Jesus right now. Trust that He knows the big picture and have faith in Him. Right now, that’s all we can do.
