A couple of weeks ago I wrote in this post about how much I’ve always hated the summer time—a feeling that remains true today. One of the skills I picked up over the past couple of months is layering for the hottest summer heat. I love wearing multiple pieces of clothing on top of each other, but it’s quite difficult to find a balance between style and function when it’s sometimes too hot to think. I think this outfit, featuring my favorite cotton and linen fabrics, is a great example of layering light, thin pieces to achieve my ideal style aesthetic despite the heat.

I started with this orange crewneck tee from Target’s A New Day brand (last seen in my Scooby Doo-inspired outfit post!), which is one of my most beloved basics of all time! I have the shirt in white and orange as both are perfect summer cotton pieces. For some reason I tend to look for crewneck necklines instead of other options like v-necks when I shop for t-shirts (although when it comes to other necklines, I LOVE a square neck or boatneck choice!) and I find they look best layered under or over other pieces in my wardrobe. If you couldn’t already tell, I’ve been on a massive orange kick with my closet, so I paired this shirt with another beloved item in the form of my cotton Abercrombie tie top I found on Postmark for under $15. I think the top was meant to be worn alone with nipple covers or a cute bralette, but I love wearing it over other tops and/or dresses. I think the purple and orange look amazing together as a somewhat clashing style with the former being pastel and the latter a bolder color way. I tucked the t-shirt into my Uniqlo linen pants that I now own in three shades: white, black, and lavender. These are my favorite pair of pants ever even though the white ones are fairly sheer on the sides (they would be absolutely perfect if they were lined!). I usually wear them with a belt to hold them up and for added accessory, which I did above using a thin white leather belt with a gold clasp. Cotton and linen are my two favorite fabrics to wear in the summer time (for obvious reasons) and these pieces are great options for both. Strappy sandals were on my wishlist a few months ago and I found this gorgeous blue pair of barely-there J. Crew kitten heels on Poshmark. The heel is about one inch if even that, so they’re easy to walk in and wear with all types of outfits. For accessories, I tied my favorite old Zara scarf to the Coach Cassie bag and layered my Frasier Sterling name necklace over my Texas necklace from James Avery.
