While there’s no sign of a white Christmas in Hawaiʻi (unless you’re on top of a volcano), the annual Honolulu City Lights signals the start of the holiday season. A huge Christmas tree paired with the iconic Shaka Santa and Mrs. Clause welcome Hawaiʻi residents with holiday spirit. The different state departments decorate their own Christmas trees while a human santa greets young children. Outside Honolulu Hale are bubble booths, Leonards’ malasada truck, shave ice and popcorn stands and a plethora of Christmas lights in different shapes. Kaiʻolu, Parker and I tried our best to take a picture in front of the real Christmas tree but the technologically inexperienced mom we asked took this:
At least there are fun memories to go around! If you haven’t yet visited the city lights, I highly recommend a short trip followed by ice cream. Try to find a capable photographer to take your picture too!
