Baylor isn’t just home to the Men’s Basketball National Champions, they host numerous top ranked teams in most of their programs. The Acrobatics and Tumbling team won their sixth consecutive national title and today, the No. 3 Men’s Tennis program swept No. 2 Texas 4-0 at the Hurd Tennis Center to earn the 2021 Big 12 tournament championship! Men’s Tennis is currently under the direction of interim head coach Michael Woodson who’s led the Bears (29-4) to utter success in his almost inaugural season at the helm. The Bears won a share of the regular season Big 12 title after they dropped a 5-2 decision to Texas on April 15. Prior to that match, Men’s Tennis was on a 10-game winning streak with their most recent loss coming from No. 12 Texas A&M, 4-3. In today’s Big 12 Championship match, the Bears won the doubles point on the heels of No. 12 Constantin Franzen and Sven Lah’s 6-2 victory over No. 8 Eliot Spizzirri and Siem Woldeab at the No. 1 spot and Finn Bass and Charlie Broom’s clinch, 6-4, against Micah Braswell and Payton Holden at court three. No. 8 Matias Soto won the first singles point, 6-1, 6-3 over No. 39 Braswell at the second position and Broom added another victory at No. 5, 6-3, 6-2 against Chih Chi Huang. No. 41 Adrian Boitan secured the win and Men’s Tennis Big 12 Conference title with a 6-4, 6-4 score over No. 21 Eliot Spizzirri. According to Baylor Athletics’ Jerry Hill (papa), the “Bears (29-4) won their second-straight and 10th overall Big 12 tournament title.” Boitan’s victory earned him the second Big 12 MOP award of his Baylor career, which makes him the first Bears athlete in program history to win the award two times!
