Baylor Football Hires Christian Robinson for Inside LBs

Christian Robinson

More than one long month after Baylor Football head coach Dave Aranda announced he’d fired former Defensive Coordinator/Inside Linebackers Coach Ron Roberts and Safeties Coach/Special Teams Coordinator Ronnie Wheat, Baylor Athletics released the news of Matthew Powledge returning to Waco as the new DC and most recently, Christian Robinson for Inside Linebackers! Roberts and Wheat were let go following the Bearsʻ disappointing season where in their six losses, the defense gave up 26, 36, 43, 31, 29, and 38 points to their non-conference and Big 12 opponents. Robinson played at the LB position at Georgia from 2009-2012 where he amassed 159 tackles, 22.5 TFLs and 4.5 sacks. He began his coaching career at Georgia from 2013-2014 as a defensive graduate assistant and held grad assistant positions on the defensive line and defense at Ole Miss in 2015-2016 and Mississippi State in 2017, respectively. Robinson earned his first full coaching stint leading the LBs at Florida from 2018-2021 before moving to Auburn as the LBs coach and run-game coordinator in 2022. According to Baylor Athletics’ Jerry Hill (papa), “Robinson was named to the American Football Coaches Association 35 Under 35 listing in 2022, highlighting some of the nation’s best up-and-coming coaches under 35.”

On the hiring of Robinson, Aranda said, “We are excited to welcome Christian and his wife Kaley into the Baylor Family. Christian is one of the top young coaches in the country, who’s commitment to relationships, and the success of the young men he coaches, on and off the field, is an ideal fit for our program.” Robinson commented, “It is an honor to join Coach Aranda’s staff and represent Baylor University. We look forward to supporting, encouraging and promoting excellence in everything we do. Life is about relationships and we are excited to foster those in our new home of Waco Texas. Sic ‘Em!”
