An Updated What’s In My Work Bag?

Updated what's in my work bag?

The last time I shared a “What’s In My Bag” post, I was two months into my stint at Legal Aid where I thought I’d reside for the next year. Joke’s on me! One resignation and job acceptance later, I thought I’d write an updated summary about the contents of my work bag with several long term items and a few new ones! Of course, I’m still using my favorite Madewell The Transport Tote (which has been featured in my bag posts since 2018)—a reliable, sturdy carryall that matches every outfit and fits my entire life inside. The bag has gotten a bit more dinged up and scratched over the past two years, but I couldn’t write an updated peek into my handbag without it! Starting from left to right in the picture above, I have my car and office keys on a Baylor football lanyard that I used for my job in college. Because my tote is so large, I often spent minutes searching for these small keys, so I finally put them on a lanyard! Since a lot of my work is writing and clerical related, I always keep a pencil case with a variety of pens, pencils, highlighters, and headphones for my phone and computer that I use when I’m transcribing hearings, HPD interviews, and bodycam footage. I transfer my phone charger to every purse and work bag I’m using at the moment, so my phone never dies suddenly. Since the start of the pandemic, I’ve been reading a lot more (I’ve gone through about 8 or 9 books so far!) when work slows down, so I have Normal People by Sally Rooney (finished the show last week and the book in less than a day!!! So many thoughts to share in an upcoming post) and The Assassination of Fred Hampton: How the FBI and the Chicago Police Murdered a Black Panther by Jeffrey Haas. I like to keep one novel and one nonfiction of poetry chapbook in my updated work bag so I can choose between them depending on my mood! To go along with my phone charger, I have the Anker PowerCore 10,400mAh Power Bank that holds about four extra charges and is extremely affordable! My phone dies within 3-4 hours, so I never leave home without this battery. I have my sparkly Kate Spade wallet with the usual credit and debit cards, cash, gift cards, and my ID. The makeup I usually take to go (aka Revlon Kiss Lip Balm in Cherry, NARS Lipstick in Dolce Vita, NARS Lipgloss in Dolce Vita, Pixi Natural Brow Duo in Deep Brunette, L’Oréal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara in Blackest Black, Urban Decay Stay Naked Correcting Concealer in 40NY, Real Techniques Base Shadow brush for concealer, NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer in Medium 1, Tweezerman Tweezers, Glossier Wowder Brush, and BAREMINERALS Flawless Application Face Brush) is housed in this little pencil case I got from Japan. I literally always carry my treasured leather notebook with me even when I don’t have a bag, but I also now have the floral book I write poems in and my old football stat book I used last season. The last small pouch I keep in my updated work bag is a little Hawaiian Airlines bag I stuff with all the essentials such as Wet Ones, gum, L’Oréal True Match Super Blendable Powder in W2, tampons, eye drops, rubber bands, AirPods, hair clip, hand sanitizer, floss, and hand cream!
