2019 Postseason Awards for Baylor Football

The Bears already collected multiple Big 12 honors for their performances throughout the season, but the accolades continue rolling in with 2019 postseason awards! The most notable athlete on Baylor’s team is undoubtedly junior DT James Lynch, who earned four All-American selections by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, The Athletic, USA Today, and Sports Illustrated. Lynch finished the season with 39 tackles, 18.5 tackles for a loss of 93 yards, 12.5 sacks for a loss of 77 yards, 3 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 13 QB hurries, 5 pass breakups, and 2 blocked kicks. Lynch’s stats earned him the 2019 postseason awards of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football’s Texas College Player of the Year as well as the AP and Waco Tribune-Herald Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. He was named to the AP and Waco Tribune-Herald All-Big 12 First Team and landed a spot on Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Postseason All-Texas College Team.

Junior S Grayland Arnold also received 2019 postseason awards as he was named to the Sports Illustrated All-American second team as well as notching AP All-Big 12 second team accolades and was named Waco Tribune-Herald first team honoree. In the 2019 season, Arnold amassed 40 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss of 5 yards, 1 sack for a loss of 3 yards, 6 interceptions returned 118 yards, and 2 pass breakups. Senior DT Bravvion Roy joined Arnold on the AP and Waco Tribune-Herald All-Big 12 first teams and earned a place on Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Postseason All-Texas Team. Roy totaled 56 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss of 44 yards, 4.5 sacks for a loss of 27 yards, 1 forced fumble, 7 QB hurries, and 1 blocked kick. Senior OL Sam Tecklenburg found himself on the All-Big 12 first teams for AP and Waco Tribune-Herald and the Postseason All-Texas College Team for Dave Campbell’s Texas Football. Senior WR Denzel Mims landed on the AP and Waco Tribune-Herald All-Big 12 second team and Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Postseason All-Texas College Team after recording 61 catches for 945 yards and 11 TDs.

Sophomore LB Terrel Bernard and senior LB Clay Johnston earned spots on the AP All-Big 12 second team while Bernard was also named to the Waco Tribune-Herald first team and Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Postseason All-Texas College Team. following an impressive 107 tackles, 9.5 tackles for a loss of 44 yards, 4.5 sacks for a loss of 33 yards, 3 fumble recoveries for 20 yards, 1 interception returned 20 yards, 5 QB hurries and 2 pass breakups. Johnston had 58 tackles, 8 tackles for a loss of 27 yards, 2.5 sacks for a loss of 13 yards, 1 interception returned 8 yards, 1 QB hurry, and 5 pass breakups. Senior CB Jameson Houston claimed a slot on the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Postseason All-Texas College Team as well with 35 tackles, 1 fumble recovery, 1 interception, and 7 pass breakups on the season as well as the All-Big 12 second team by the Waco-Tribune Herald. Senior DE James Lockhart, senior LB Jordan Williams, and junior OL Xavier Newman-Johnson notched spots on the Waco-Tribune Herald All-Big 12 second team as Lockhart finished with 29 tackles, 7.5 tackles for a loss of 37 yards, 5 sacks for a loss of 26 yards, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, 6 QB hurries, and 1 pass breakup while Williams collected 81 tackles, 8.5 tackles for a loss of 22 yards, 1.5 sacks for a loss of 8 yards, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 3 interceptions returned 21 yards, 1 QB hurry, and 7 pass breakups.

Head coach Matt Rhule finished the 2019 postseason awards by earning the Big 12 Coach of the Year title from AP and Waco Tribune-Herald after being named 2019 Chuck Neinas Coach of the Year. Rhule also landed the title of AFCA FBS Region 4 Coach of Year.
